The Grand Strand: a Bargain Hunter’s Paradise

Here at Myrtle Beach’s Dayton House Resort, many of our guests return to the Grand Strand each year for more than just our gorgeous coastline. Think it’s the golf that keeps bringing them back? Maybe the scrumptious restaurants? All of these are on the list, of course, but what you may not know is that the Grand Strand is also a bargain hunter’s dreamland.

Want the inside scoop on where the best bargains can be found? We’ve got all the info you’ll need. So make your reservations and get ready to shop ’til you drop. Here we go!

Let’s start near your home base at the Dayton House Resort. Just south of us and across Kings Highway, you’ll find Carolina Pottery. This place is a home décor lover’s dream. We aren’t talking about a small interior-design boutique. This space was occupied by Kmart for decades — until they closed and Carolina Pottery moved in, filling each square foot with items ranging from gifts, accessories and floral design pieces to kitchen and dining décor, seasonal offerings and outdoor décor. This is the perfect place to begin your home’s décor transformation at prices that will allow you to do more than you imagined.

Next, let’s travel down Bypass 17 toward the south end of the Grand Strand. You will soon be in the town of Surfside Beach. Here, you will find bargain paradise! Taking the Hwy 544 Exit off the Bypass, you will see SayeBrook Town Center on your right. This is where you’ll be spending a considerable amount of time on your quest for bargains. SayeBrook isn’t home to just one store that will have you giddy over your savings, but several — and more store openings are planned soon. Marshalls, Kirkland’s, ULTA, Rack Room Shoes and even Petco are among the offerings found here.

If you have never been to a Marshalls before, you are in for an experience. Name-brand clothing, shoes and home décor are available here for a fraction of the usual price. You will even find books, stationery, lingerie, kitchen and bath décor, and furniture here. The prices are so great that your biggest problem will be determining how to get it all home. (Bargain-hunting tip — leave space in those suitcases for new items going home with you!)

ULTA is filled with nearly every brand of makeup available, both high-end and drug-store quality, as well as every beauty accessory you can dream of — and they are all offered at discount prices. Be sure to ask for coupons, because they always have them in-store and are happy to share them with you for even more savings!

Many people have been in a Kirkland’s home goods store, however the Kirkland’s at SayeBrook is brand new, meaning that this is the newest and best on the beach. Kirkland’s is well-known for its beautiful home décor and fun holiday trends, and its prices are very reasonable. Making things even more attractive and a little more fun is their new app — the Kirkland’s Spin to Win app. Every time they play, users receive a new discount, even on already discounted sale merchandise! Again, make sure you are leaving room in those suitcases to bring these bargains home!

Let’s hop back onto Highway 544 and head to the heart of Surfside Beach on Kings Highway.  Here, in a building set back a bit from the road, you’ll find Old Time Pottery. It may be one of the best-kept secrets for bargains on the beach. Think of a place where nearly everything under the sun is found under one roof and offered at bargain-basement discounts. That is Old Time Pottery. When visiting, you’ll want to set aside quite a bit of time. If an item can be used inside or outside your home, it can likely be found inside these four walls, and you will be hard-pressed to find better prices anywhere.

Warning: You may need to set aside an empty suitcase altogether for this bargain-hunting trip!  We have only scratched the surface for deals to be found along the Grand Strand, as we haven’t even discussed the North Myrtle Beach finds! When you plan your stay at the Dayton House, be sure to let us know about your shopping wishes, and we’ll be happy to point you in the right direction!
