Staying Cool in the Summer Heat

Myrtle Beach is wildly popular in the summertime, when it typically serves up hot, sunny days and cool, relaxing nights. Located right on the ocean and in the heart of the Grand Strand, the Dayton House Resort offers plenty of ways for you to keep cool in the summer heat. Here are some of our favorite ways to stay cool while vacationing here.

Take a dip: The Dayton House has an amazing array of pools both indoor and outdoor that are great for all ages. Cool off in the outdoor zero-entry oceanfront pool, where you can slowly walk into the refreshing water. Take a swim in the indoor/outdoor pool located at the North Building. This pool is great for people who love to transition from the shade to the Carolina sun without leaving the pool. Float around in the relaxing lazy river tube ride, perfect for washing your cares away. When you want to get out of the warm sun, spend some time splashing around in the indoor pool. You can even unwind during the evenings in one of the resort’s three hot tubs while you enjoy the ocean breezes with your loved one.

One of the best ways to cool off is to take a dip in the Atlantic Ocean, which is just steps away from the resort. Relax on the white sands and enjoy the constant ocean breezes while you take in the relaxing sounds of the waves hitting the beach. Head out into the waves and ride a boogie board, splash around with your friends or just float around in the beautiful sea.

Kick back: Out on the Dayton House’s oceanfront lawn, plenty of relaxing lounge chairs with their famous yellow umbrellas beckon, so you can take advantage of the ocean breezes while enjoying a break from the sun. You can even cool off with a delicious drink from the Yella Umbrella Poolside Bar and Grill, which offers delicious food and amazing tropical drinks.

Splash at the park: Another great way to beat the summer heat is to take a short drive to one of the area’s water parks.

With over 20 acres of swerves, curves, waves and chutes, Myrtle Waves water park is South Carolina’s largest — and it’s located less than 3 miles from the Dayton House. Your kids will love the toddler-friendly Bubble Bay, and Saturation Station is perfect for pre-teens. Float around in the gigantic lazy river, and play among the waves in South Carolina’s largest wave pool. Take a ride on one of the many tube slides where you will twist, turn and splash your way down through a variety of both open and completely dark tubes. Jump on a tube and try the Arooba Tooba, where you will shoot down an enclosed flume and out into a large bowl-funnel. It’s a twisting, turning ride until you splash through the center drop. If you are really brave, take a wild ride on one of the many body slides that Myrtle Waves has to offer. The Super Chute, Thunderbolt Speed Slides and Riptide Rockets are all wild rides that are fun for the whole family.

Another amazing water park that will keep you cool is Wild Water & Wheels in Surfside Beach.  The surf’s up in the Wipe Out Wave Pool, and the Lazy River goes from mild to wild with a raging waterfall in the middle. Zip down the Head Rush, Twin Twister and Wild H20 Racer mat slides for a wet and wild ride. For a wild rush, take a ride on the Side Winder and Serpentine body slides to experience their snake-like curves that shoot you through enclosed tubes. For the adrenaline junkie in your family, Wild Water offers the scary Free Fall Cliff Dive and Triple Dip body slides.

These are just a few of the many great ways to stay cool on your next vacation at the Dayton House. Plan your summertime Myrtle Beach visit now so that you can perfect the art of keeping cool in the summer heat.
