Plan a perfect 4th of July Beach getaway to Myrtle Beach

Start thinking about Independence Day in Myrtle Beach.

July 4, the day we celebrate our nation’s independence, falls on a Saturday in 2020. That means it’s the perfect date to plan a weekend getaway for the holiday. What better way to honor our country – and give yourself a break! – than with a trip to Myrtle Beach.

Myrtle Beach is one of the Southeast’s biggest vacation locations, as you’ve probably heard. With miles of beautiful beaches, there’s plenty of room for everyone. And whether you’re coming this way for an adventure or to chill, there’s plenty for you to do here, too.

Why do people love Myrtle Beach?

The beach is the main draw. There’s plenty of natural beauty, and accommodations and entertainment, in the same place. Golfers love this place because of the array of some of the country’s finest courses. Seafood restaurants and outlet shopping are also big in Myrtle Beach. There’s always something going on here, but you also have a chance to unwind when you’d rather find some solitude.

Here’s what to do when you’re here.

On the beach

That’s the No. 1 draw, right? The beach? Yes, it is. Here are some terrific ways to have your fun in the sun in Myrtle Beach.

Beach games

Myrtle Beach is an ideal place to fly a kite, with plenty of space and a prevailing sea breeze. Didn’t pack one? Just hit Klig’s Kites to pick one out. Tip: Go beautifully simple with a cool triangular delta kite.

Beach volleyball, cornhole, and spikeball are all great options. Or just bring a football or Frisbee to throw around.

Bodyboarding

You don’t need a surfboard to have a blast in Myrtle Beach. Bodyboarders ride on the crest, face, and curl of waves pushing toward the shore. You might also know this as Boogieboarding, the name that inventor Tom Morey gave it. Stop in Surf City Surf Shop to buy one.

Take a surfing lesson

It’s perhaps the coolest thing to do on the beach, but it’s hard work! Surfing is a full-body workout, and when you come to Myrtle Beach, you can find places to take lessons. Try Kokopelli Surf Lessons or Jack’s Surf Lessons & Board Rentals for top-notch instruction.

Fishing

A fishing excursion in Myrtle Beach will leave you with memories for a lifetime. Myrtle Beach Fishing Charters for light and fly fishing for speckled trout, sharks, tarpon, and more. Myrtle Beach Sport Fishing (843-231-5453) knows all the good spots to fish in the area.

Off the beach

Not all of Myrtle Beach’s fun is in the sun and sand. This is an awesome vacation spot because of the huge array of activities you can do here.

New penguin exhibit at Ripley’s

The most dapper residents of Myrtle Beach are the African Penguins at Ripley’s. The new penguin exhibit is part of a gigantic expansion you have to see to believe. It’s part of a conservancy effort to restore numbers of the endangered bird in the wild.
