Something that Dayton House Resort and Family Kingdom have in common is the number of years they have been a staple in the Grand Strand scenery.
Located on Ocean Boulevard, in the heart of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Family Kingdom Amusement Park has been entertaining families for more than 45 years. It opened as Grand Strand Amusement Park in 1966.
Family Kingdom is a 13-acre amusement park with 38 rides. It is located on both banks of the historic Withers Swash where a natural stream meets the beach and ocean which tides flow in and out.
Family Kingdom provides the complete amusement park experience with thrill rides, kiddie rides, attractions for all ages, free entertainment, midway games, and traditional park temptations such as funnel cakes, cotton candy and corn dogs.
As the only seaside amusement park in Myrtle Beach, it provides panoramic views of the ocean and the Grand Strand from atop its open gondola Ferris Wheel, the Giant Wheel. It is also home to the legendary Swamp Fox wooden roller coaster, one of only 115 wooden coasters still operating in the United States, and the only one operating in S.C.
Family Kingdom is one of the few remaining free-admission parks in the U.S. There is no admission price to enter the open park, and ride tickets can be purchased independently. Wristbands that entitle patrons to ride all day are available. The park also offers an economical “combo pass” that enables riders to enjoy both its amusement rides and its affiliate, the adjacent Splashes Oceanfront Water Park.
SPLASHES OCEANFRONT WATER PARK
Renowned for its stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean, Splashes Oceanfront Water Park is a two-acre, independent, full-scale water park located on 500 feet of ocean frontage across Ocean Boulevard from Family Kingdom Amusement Park.
It features 18 attractions including three serpentine water flumes, two speed slides, and two intermediate slides and a 425-foot Lazy River. Splash pools feature two rain trees and a multi-tiered waterfall, and there are eight kiddie slides.
Splashes opened in 1977 under the name Wild Rapids. In 1997, Family Kingdom Amusement Park purchased the water park, expanded the water attractions, and renamed it Family Kingdom Water Park. In 2013, it was renamed Splashes Oceanfront
In the last few years, they have added four exciting new rides including the Twist ‘n Shout steel roller coaster, the interactive Jump Around Dune Buggies, and the Magic Bikes. Of course, the favorites are ready and waiting. Hold on as the Swamp Fox wooden roller coaster takes your breath away at every turn, splash down on our Log Flume, free-fall 110 feet in our Slingshot Drop Zone, bounce a bit on our bumper cars or hit the Go-Kart tracks. And don’t forget, Family Kingdom’s Oceanfront Water Park, Splashes, is just across the street.
