Fun Family Attractions for Labor Day Weekend in the Myrtle Beach Area

Summertime in Myrtle Beach is a magical time for vacationers to make family memories and spend quality time together — and the Dayton House Resort is the perfect home base to take in everything Myrtle Beach has to offer on your vacation. Labor Day weekend on the Grand Strand is an especially good time for your crew to enjoy fun events and attractions that are great for the entire family. Here are some of the best family-fun attractions and events going on this Labor Day weekend.

If you are a fan of great barbecue, take the family to Beach, Boogie & BBQ Festival held at the Horry-Georgetown Technical College Conference Center near The Market Common in Myrtle Beach. Over 25 BBQ teams will compete for cash, prizes and bragging rights at the festival, so you know there is going to be some amazing BBQ to taste. On Friday, Sept. 2, at 6 p.m., you can enjoy the wing competition and tasting along with live entertainment through 9 p.m. The festivities continue on Saturday, Sept. 3, at noon with the BBQ Derby and the Kansas City Barbecue Society BBQ competition. Teams will compete in the pork, ribs, brisket and chicken categories, and you get to enjoy some amazing barbeque. They also have a cornhole competition, a car show and live entertainment throughout the day. BBQ sampling tickets are only $1 each, and admission to the delicious event is free.

One of the area’s largest family-fun attractions — Broadway at the Beach — is only a few blocks inland from the Dayton House. From Sept. 1 through Sept. 4, you can enjoy Broadway at the Beach’s Summer Nights events. Your family will love the live music, entertainers, face-painting, and popular princesses and superhero characters. Mom and Dad will enjoy the area’s premier beer and wine festival, Coastal Uncorked, which offers food, beer and wine events throughout the weekend. You can even celebrate Labor Day weekend on Sunday, Sept. 4, with an eye-popping fireworks extravaganza over Lake Broadway that the entire family will love. Your family could spend the entire weekend at Broadway at the Beach and never get bored.

If you want to visit a unique family-fun attraction, take the short drive south to Brookgreen Gardens in Murrells Inlet. Brookgreen Gardens is one of America’s premier sculpture gardens, and it also features an accredited zoo, the Lowcountry Trail and an ever-changing museum.  From now through Sept. 5, Brookgreen Gardens is hosting a Nature Connects – Art with LEGO® Bricks exhibit, which features twelve larger-than-life LEGO brick sculptures presented throughout the Native Wildlife Zoo. Your family will discover a 6-foot-tall hummingbird hovering over a trumpet flower, a deer family made from 48,000 bricks, a giant tortoise, a 7-foot-long dragonfly and much more. In all, nearly a half a million LEGO bricks were used in making this magnificent display. Your family will also have fun watching the otters, alligators, eagles and more in the Native Wildlife Zoo. While you’re at Brookgreen Gardens, make sure to stop by the Butterfly House to watch hundreds of butterflies soar through the air and the Enchanted Storybook Forest that is fun and educational for children.

The Grand Strand offers so many fun things for your family to enjoy during your Labor Day weekend at the Dayton House. Spend a day enjoying some BBQ, have fun at the Summer Nights events at Broadway at the Beach, check out the cool exhibits at Brookgreen Gardens, and have an amazing vacation at the Dayton House Resort, Myrtle Beach.
