The Rice Museum is located in the Old Market Building, the first Georgetown structure to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The building was erected in 1842 and is known locally as the Town Clock because of the clock faces located on all four sides of its bell tower. The tower was added around 1845. The Town Clock , the symbol of Georgetown County, is a singularly appropriate site for studying the history of the community.
